Family Session Details
When was the last time that you had family portraits taken – or have you never had Family Portraits taken? Let us capture your family in a fun and natural setting where the children can run free and be themselves and not be limited to an indoor studio session.
When is the best time for a Family Session?
The best time of day for family sessions is approximately an hour before the sun sets when the afternoon light is soft and golden, otherwise known at “Golden Hour”. We find this is also the most flattering time of day for our clients as there are no harsh dark shadows on faces or family members squinting at the sun.
We hold Family Photography sessions all year around however, keep in mind that the sun sets earlier in Winter and a lot later in the Summer months so if you have younger children then you need to think bout what would work best to get the most out of your session.
Where do Family Sessions take place?
In and around the local Logan Village area, there are several outdoor rural locations that we love and are lucky enough to have access to, such locations range from rolling hills, long grassy paddocks or rocky streams. For other locations such as Brisbane, further west or those that wish to have a family beach session on the Gold Coast, we can do that too however a small travel fee would apply – please feel free to ask us for a quote.
What should I bring to our Family Session?
Perhaps some snacks for your children and water or if you have a younger toddler or baby then perhaps their favourite toy? Sometimes Families will bring their own favourite blanket or quilt with or without cushions for seated and laying down photos, however you don’t have to bring anything really, we always bring a neutral blanket along and depending on the age of your children, we can also bring crates or props for them to sit on.
What to wear?
We recommend booking your family session in advance and taking the time to put some thought into your family’s outfits, after all, if you are going to hang a large print from your session on your wall that you’ll look at everyday with admiration, then you need to love what you were all wearing.
The options are endless – you can all wear pastel light colours back with creams and stone/camel/beige or denims. Denims, Navy, blues and stone/cream colours always work well together too. Or if you are a little gamer then perhaps start with a printed piece such as an item for Mum or your Daughter’s favourite floral printed dress or skirt, then take the colours from that print and build on it by adding other items that go back with that print.
The ultimate goal is that all family members are coordinated as opposed to being ‘matchy-matchy’ and by that we mean preferably don’t all wear exactly the same outfits, ie. white tops with denim bottoms. Also, don’t forget texture too, we love laces and knits, vest, shirts worn open over teas and accessories such as scarves & jewellery or even fedora hats for little boys.
Worried about how to pose?
Very few people are confident in front of the camera or even like to have their photos taken, our outdoor Family Photography sessions are therefore designed to be very relaxed and lots of fun. We always try to take a mix of both posed as well as candid natural photos, we’ll show you how to stand, where to look and let you know if you need to lift your chin or move your head a certain way so please relax and enjoy the experience.
Favourite family photos are often those that evoke emotion – moments of connection, tickling the kids into fits of laughter, cuddles with parents, kisses on the temple, holding hands and just that look of admiration and love in one another’s eyes…we love to capture it all.
Should you have absolutely any questions at all, then please feel free to call, email or use the ‘contact us’ tab. Nadine will be happy to help you any way that she can to make sure that your newborn photos are something that you’ll cherish forever and that the whole experience will be an enjoyable one for the whole family.
